The Education Service Center, Region 2 (ESC-2) recently named Sonia Perez as the new ESC-2 deputy director for instructional services. Perez, a native of Kingsville and a graduate of H. M. King High School, has 25 years of experience in education as a classroom teacher, counselor, principal, and most recently as Taft Independent School District’s assistant superintendent for instruction. Her educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, three master’s degrees in the areas of guidance and counseling, administration, and elementary education. Perez is in the final phase of completing degree requirements for a doctorate in educational leadership. The Education Service Center’s 94 member staff provides technical assistance and professional development services to school personnel in 42 school districts and 7 charter schools in an 11-county area of the Coastal Bend.
