RAJAN NAMED RECIPIENT OF BEST SPORTS STORY AWARD
Corpus Christi, Texas: September 29, 2004 - The Corpus Christi Rayz would like to extend congratulations to Greg Rajan of the Corpus Christi Caller-Times for his recent Award of Excellence. Rajan was honored last week with having the Best Sports Story of the Year in the Press Club of Dallas Katie Awards, the largest media contest in the Southwest. Rajan, who is the beat writer for the Corpus Christi Rayz, covers various sports for the Corpus Christi Caller-Times and is widely regarded as one of the premier journalists in the Central Hockey League.
Rajan, entering his second full season as the head beat writer for the Rayz, has made great advancements in the coverage of hockey in Corpus Christi. Last season Rajan created many different vantage points for his audience by covering stories from different perspectives. These creative pieces saw him travel with the Rayz on a nine-game road trip through five states and report everyday on the activity and atmosphere of the trek. Rajan also covered a story from the Rayz bench to offer fans the perspective of what it was like to be with the team during a game and throughout a game day. Thro ugh Gregs career, he has been praised by the CHL and asked to cover various stories for the entire league.
Growing up an avid fan of hockey, Greg has brought an in-depth knowledge of ice hockey to South Texas, and helped many Coastal Bend natives learn the game. He has also been the creator of many feature stories, allowing the fans to gain access to players off the ice as well as on. Rayz fans can expect the same excellent coverage throughout the 2004-05 season in the Caller-Times, as Greg will remain as the teams beat writer. In Rajans tenure as the beat writer of the Rayz, he has exhibited his talent and passion for reporting time and time again. The Corpus Christi Rayz are thrilled for Greg and once again congratulate him on his remarkable achievement.
The Rayz will begin the 2004-05 season in Austin on October 22nd, and host the Laredo Bucks in the first ever event at the AmericanBank Center on November 5th and 7:05pm. Training camp officially opens up on Monday, October 11, 2004. The Rayz will host three preseason games, including one versus the Mexico National Hockey Team in the Memorial Coliseum.
